Undergraduate Program
For new or transfer students seeking licensure to teach FCS in Colorado.
Each application is considered on an individual basis. Factors considered include, but are not limited to the following items:
New Students to CSU
- Demonstrated academic preparation for university-level work (i.e.; GPA, class rank, ACT or SAT results, completed prerequisite high school course work, rigor of high school curriculum).
- Involvement in leadership, school, community and/or family activities.
- Ability to contribute to an appreciation of diversity on campus.
Transfer Students to CSU
- Students who have more than 12 college-level semester credits from an accredited institution and a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. An applicant must have a minimum 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) to be considered for admission. Admission is subject to satisfactory completion of current courses and submission of a final, complete, official transcript.
- Students who have completed an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Sciences degree from an accredited Colorado institution will be guaranteed University admission providing that it is the last institution attended and that a cumulative 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) has been achieved from ALL institutions attended. Entry into a specific major may be dependent on completion of appropriate prerequisite courses and provided that enrollment limitations have not been met.
- Also considered: academic rigor; trends in grades; involvement in campus, community and/or family activities; and an ability to contribute to an appreciation of diversity on campus.

Transferring credits to Colorado State University:
Colorado State University provides a transfer evaluation system which allows students to check on courses offered by approximately 100-plus accredited institutions, mostly in Colorado and Wyoming as well as selected institution in other states to determine transfer course equivalency. Visit the following site to explore course equivalency http://transfer.org/ Courses not listed on the transfer equivalency database must be submitted on a transcript and evaluated by the Transfer Evaluation Office. Transfer Students NOTE: In order to receive a degree and licensure from Colorado State University, a student must complete a minimum of 30 upper division credits at CSU to fulfill the residency requirement. That said, 15 of the students last 30 credits for their degree must be completed at CSU.
Admission to the Colorado State University Teacher Licensure Program
The Teacher Licensure Program model for the secondary and K-12 teaching areas is a four-phase program. The four-phase program was implemented to meet Colorado, NCATE, and other reform movements in teacher education.
Admission to the Licensure Program is required for candidates wishing to enroll in Phase II education courses (ED350/386, ED331) however, some application materials are required when enrolled in Phase I education courses. Undergraduate candidates applying for admission must be seeking a bachelor’s degree at Colorado State University. - Basic skills proficiency
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75
- Documented work experience with school-age children
- Oral Proficiency
- Writing Sample
